The Road Traffic Sector of the Transport Safety Agency (Trafi) is in charge of most of the tasks formerly handled by the Finnish Vehicle Administration (AKE).
On 1 January 2010, AKE, the Finnish Civil Aviation Authority, the safety functions of the Finnish Maritime Administration and the Finnish Rail Agency were merged to form the Transport Safety Agency.
(22.12.2009) Mr Kari Wihlman to be Director-General of the new Transport Safety Agency Mr Kari Wihlman has been appointed Director-General of the Finnish Transport Safety Agency with effect from 1 January 2010. The Government of Finland announced the appointment on 22 December 2009. Appointment to the post of Director-General is for a period of five years ending on 31 December 2014. Read more.
(24.11.2009) Finnish Transport Safety Agency will be launched on 1 January In 2010, pilot licences and certificates for seafarers will be issued by the new Transport Safety Agency TraFi. TraFi will also send the invoices for vehicle tax, issue car registration certificates and specify the qualification requirements for locomotive drivers.
Transport Safety Agency TraFi will be formed by merging the Finnish Vehicle Administration, Finnish Civil Aviation Authority, Finnish Rail Agency and the safety functions of the Finnish Maritime Administration. The Agency will start operating at the beginning of next year. As an auxiliary name, the Agency will introduce the abbreviation TraFi, which is well suited also for international use. Read more.
